Anged

Anged (MP3)

lyrics

Angels dancing on the head of a pin,
A cold winds a blowin',
Better let them in.

How many could there be?
1,2,3?
Oh, don't let the number,
Bother me,
Just hope they're limber,
And, set 'em free.

Angels poked with the point of a pin,
Suffering, suffering... again and again,
Open my heart and let them in.

How many could there be,
As far as the eye can see?
Oh, don't let the number,
Bother me,
Just hope for a forgiver,
And, set 'em free.

Souls changed,
Out of body,
And, "anged."
Re-arranged,
Ascending 'ore hell,
To become angel.

Angels dancing on the head of a pin,
And, there's no sense debatin',
How many will fit,
Angels dancing on the head of a pin,
And, there's no sense debatin',
Do they take a sh#&?

Will they pass through the middle,
Is a senseless riddle,
And, when it comes to jostling,
You must be jesting,
At the very least...
Don't interrupt the dancing,
When their dancing's ceased,
It interrupts our peace,
So, let those angels prance,
Come on! Let them dance!

It's clear in the dawn,
Let it happen.

See how many you can crowd on,
Why be stingy when it comes to heaven,
See how many you can crowd on,
Why be stingy when it comes to heaven?

NOTES

How many angels can stand (dance) on the head of a pin? Scornful description of a tedious concern with irrelevant details; an allusion to religious controversies in the middle ages. In fact, the medieval argument was over how many angels could stand on the point of a pin.
-- The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition.

"Aquinas could gravely debate, Whether Christ was not an hermaphrodite [and] whether there are excrements in Paradise."

"The reader desirous of being merry with Aquinas's angels may find them in Martinus Scriblerus, in Ch. VII who inquires if angels pass from one extreme to another without going through the middle? And if angels know things more clearly in a morning? How many angels can dance on the point of a very fine needle, without jostling one another?"

-- Isaac D'Israeli (1766-1848)
