When a snowball rolls down a hill, its momentum is governed by several principles of physics, including conservation of momentum, friction, and the laws of motion. The <strong>laws of motion<\/strong> were formulated by <strong>Sir Isaac Newton<\/strong> in the 17th century and form the foundation of classical mechanics. They describe the relationship between the motion of an object and the forces acting upon it. There are three laws:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Newton&#8217;s First Law (Law of Inertia):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>A body at rest stays at rest, and a body in motion stays in motion with a constant velocity, unless acted upon by an external force.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This means that objects will not change their state of motion unless a force acts on them.<\/li>\n<li>For example, a ball rolling on a flat surface will eventually stop due to friction (an external force).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Newton&#8217;s Second Law (Law of Force and Acceleration):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mathematically: <strong>F = ma<\/strong>, where:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>F<\/strong> is the net force (in newtons),<\/li>\n<li><strong>m<\/strong> is the mass of the object (in kilograms),<\/li>\n<li><strong>a<\/strong> is the acceleration (in meters per second squared).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>This explains why heavier objects require more force to accelerate than lighter ones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Newton&#8217;s Third Law (Action and Reaction):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This means that forces always occur in pairs. If object A exerts a force on object B, object B exerts an equal and opposite force on object A.<\/li>\n<li>For example, when you push against a wall, the wall pushes back with an equal force.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Together, these laws form the basis for understanding motion and the effects of forces in our physical world.
