About the Song
\nThis anti-science ideology is a growing problem in the US. One distinction that is particularly important is the difference between scientific knowledge and scientific power. The current administration is undermining scientific knowledge by promoting a false narrative about scientific power and expertise. That is particularly damaging and dangerous when it comes to dismissing climate change as a hoax and undermining confidence in vaccines and medical science.<\/p>\n
Calling someone a \u201cRasputin\u201d means they have a hidden, corrupting, or powerful influence over a leader or ruling group\u2014usually through personal access, charm, manipulation, or secrecy.<\/p>\n
What is particularly disturbing today is the overlap between greed and eliminationist logic. The greed component is partly reflected in the effort to portray climate change as a hoax, because acknowledging the full implications of climate science threatens enormous amounts of existing capital and economic interests.<\/p>\n
The eliminationist component is even more disturbing. It appears in the way both climate change and public health can be viewed through a \u201csurvival of the fittest\u201d framework\u2014where the consequences are not treated as problems to solve, but as mechanisms for eliminating people considered weak, old, sick, or otherwise expendable.<\/p>\n
The Epstein files provide some extraordinary evidence of this mindset. Epstein wrote:<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe climate change is a good way of dealing with overpopulation\u2014the earth\u2019s forest fire. Potentially a good thing for the species.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also wrote that \u201cexecutions of the elderly and infirm make sense.\u201d<\/p>\n
And his statement that \u201cmore CO\u2082 is good for plants\u201d echoes an argument long promoted by the CO\u2082 Coalition: that increasing atmospheric CO\u2082 should be viewed primarily as beneficial because plants use it.<\/p>\n
Taken together with the explicitly eugenic statements in the files, this goes far beyond an ordinary disagreement over climate policy. It represents what eliminationist logic: where traditional denial protects existing capital, while ecofascist or eugenic reasoning can rationalize unequal human survival.<\/p>\n
That is why the Rasputin comparison is worth exploring. The question isn’t simply who holds power. It is also what ideas are circulating among the people who have access to that power\u2014and what happens when enormous wealth, political influence, scientific denial, eugenics, and eliminationist thinking begin to overlap.<\/p>\n
