His influence is depicted as not only authoritarian but also fundamentally foolish, with &#8220;the dumbest policies&#8221; spreading across the entire country.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"803\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"603\" data-end=\"803\">Bridge (&#8220;or has it yet to dawn?&#8221;) questions whether people even realize what they&#8217;ve allowed to happen \u2014 suggesting a troubling lack of awareness or critical thinking among his supporters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"1094\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"1094\">Chorus (&#8220;did we have to succumb to &#8216;under the thumb&#8217;&#8230; how come?!?&#8221;) is a cry of disbelief and frustration. It asks why \u2014 in a nation built on freedom and self-governance \u2014 so many fell willingly under the sway of a leader marked by incompetence, cruelty, and self-interest.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1096\" data-end=\"1373\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1098\" data-end=\"1373\">Verse 2 (&#8220;have we all gone numb&#8221;) suggests that constant exposure to lies, chaos, and poor leadership has desensitized the public.
