Here&#8217;s a breakdown of how each plays a role:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"187\" data-end=\"235\">1. <strong data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"235\">Moon&#8217;s Gravity (Primary Influence)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"236\" data-end=\"608\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"236\" data-end=\"334\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"238\" data-end=\"334\">The Moon\u2019s gravitational pull creates a <strong data-start=\"278\" data-end=\"287\">bulge<\/strong> in Earth\u2019s oceans on the side facing the Moon.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"335\" data-end=\"511\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"337\" data-end=\"511\">At the same time, there&#8217;s a second bulge on the opposite side of the Earth due to the <strong data-start=\"423\" data-end=\"441\">inertial force<\/strong> (Earth and Moon orbiting a common center of mass, or <strong data-start=\"495\" data-end=\"509\">barycenter<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"512\" data-end=\"608\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"514\" data-end=\"608\">These bulges result in <strong data-start=\"537\" data-end=\"555\">two high tides<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"560\" data-end=\"577\">two low tides<\/strong> each day as the Earth rotates.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"615\" data-end=\"664\">2. <strong data-start=\"625\" data-end=\"664\">Sun\u2019s Gravity (Secondary Influence)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"665\" data-end=\"1095\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"665\" data-end=\"753\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"667\" data-end=\"753\">The Sun is much farther away but much more massive, so its gravity also affects tides.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"932\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"756\" data-end=\"932\">When the Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned (during <strong data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"818\">new moon<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"836\">full moon<\/strong>), their gravitational forces combine, producing <strong data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"901\">spring tides<\/strong> (higher highs and lower lows).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1095\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1095\">When the Sun and Moon are at right angles (during <strong data-start=\"985\" data-end=\"1013\">first and third quarters<\/strong>), they partially cancel each other out, leading to <strong data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1079\">neap tides<\/strong> (less extreme).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1132\">3. <strong data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1132\">Earth\u2019s Rotation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1478\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1274\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1135\" data-end=\"1274\">As the Earth rotates, different areas pass through the tidal bulges, experiencing <strong data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1250\">rising and falling sea levels<\/strong> about every 12.5 hours.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1478\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1277\" data-end=\"1478\">Earth&#8217;s rotation also causes a slight lag, pulling the bulges ahead of the Moon&#8217;s position\u2014this has long-term effects, like <strong data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1429\">slowing Earth\u2019s rotation<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1434\" data-end=\"1467\">pushing the Moon farther away<\/strong> over time.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1485\" data-end=\"1525\">4. <strong data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1525\">Spacetime and Tidal Forces<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"1526\"
