Climate Disinformation 101: The CO\u2082 Coalition\u2019s Fantasy of \u2018More CO\u2082 is Better\u2019<\/h3>\n

[Note: Trump has also altered the US climate assessment to include this dangerous delusion]<\/p>\n

The CO\u2082 Coalition isn\u2019t doing science. It\u2019s a fossil-fuel\u2013funded propaganda group that pushes twisted half-truths. One of their most absurd and dangerous lies is the idea that \u201cwe need more CO\u2082\u201d because it supposedly makes the Earth greener. That\u2019s not science \u2014 that\u2019s climate disinformation.<\/p>\n

Here are the facts:<\/p>\n

    Forests turning from sinks to sources<\/strong> \u2013 The Amazon, boreal forests, and other ecosystems have already shifted from being net carbon sinks to net carbon emitters in recent years. That\u2019s not \u201cgreening,\u201d that\u2019s collapse.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Pollution poisoning plants<\/strong> \u2013 Ground-level ozone is directly damaging vegetation, slashing net primary productivity (NPP) by 20\u201370% in many forests and croplands. Our own long-term field studies in Pennsylvania show old-growth trees have lost ~40% of foliage since 2003, with canopy height shrinking by a third. This mirrors global patterns of decline.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    The illusion of greening<\/strong> \u2013 Sure, you can get a temporary burst of vines and annuals when old trees die. But those species are carbon-neutral year to year. They don\u2019t store long-term carbon, and in fact they speed the death of remaining trees.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Feedbacks accelerating<\/strong> \u2013 Permafrost is no longer thawing slowly; it\u2019s burning year-round, releasing greenhouse gases far faster than earlier models assumed. Add in water vapor amplification (7% more capacity per \u00b0C of warming, per Clausius-Clapeyron) and extreme rainfall physics, and we\u2019re now seeing violent rain events with momentum and force scaling off the charts \u2014 tearing up soil, collapsing hillsides, and wrecking ecosystems.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Bottom line:<\/strong> the Earth isn\u2019t \u201cgreening.\u201d It\u2019s browning and blackening \u2014 losing old growth, losing resilience, and spinning into feedback loops that accelerate warming and destruction.<\/p>\n

    *<\/strong> Our probabilistic, ensemble-based climate model<\/b><\/a> \u2014 which incorporates complex socio-economic and ecological feedback loops within a dynamic, nonlinear system \u2014 projects that global temperatures are becoming unsustainable this century<\/b><\/a>. This far exceeds earlier estimates of a 4\u00b0C rise over the next thousand years, highlighting a dramatic acceleration in global warming. We are now entering a phase of compound, cascading collapse<\/b>, where climate, ecological, and societal systems destabilize through interlinked, self-reinforcing feedback loops.<\/p>\n

    Tipping points<\/a> and feedback loops<\/a> drive the acceleration of climate change<\/a>. When one tipping point is toppled and triggers others, the cascading collapse is known as the Domino Effect<\/a><\/em>.<\/h3>\n
