ABOUT THE SCIENCE
\nThe most porous rocks are typically sedimentary rocks, with sandstone and limestone being prime examples. Some volcanic rocks, like pumice, are also extremely porous due to trapped gas bubbles during formation.<\/p>\n

Sedimentary rocks
\n* Sandstone: Often highly porous, allowing it to absorb liquids. The porosity can range from 11\u201332%.
\n* Limestone: Also very porous and can readily absorb liquids, though its porosity is often less than sandstone.
\n* Shale: Can be porous (8\u201329%) but often lacks permeability, meaning the pores are not interconnected.<\/p>\n

Volcanic rocks
\n* Pumice: This is a very lightweight, porous volcanic rock that is created when gas-rich lava cools rapidly. It’s used in many products because of its absorbent nature.<\/p>\n
