\nRising seas are pushing saltwater into South Florida\u2019s drinking-water aquifers, including the Biscayne Aquifer. Less rainfall, reduced river flow, and heavy groundwater pumping all accelerate the intrusion.<\/p>\n

Tampa just had to start buying 10 million gallons of water per day \u2014 something officials call \u201cvery rare,\u201d especially this early in the year. Saltwater intrusion and declining flows are forcing emergency water measures far earlier than in past decades.<\/p>\n
