The Path to Hubris
\nThe Deadly Setup: Bellerophon was sent to King Iobates with a sealed letter ordering his execution. Unwilling to kill a guest directly, Iobates instead sent him on “suicide missions” against the fire-breathing Chimera, the warlike Solymoi, and the Amazons.<\/p>\n
Unrivaled Success: With the help of a golden bridle from Athena to tame Pegasus, Bellerophon succeeded in every task. Impressed and fearing divine favor, Iobates eventually gave Bellerophon his daughter in marriage and half his kingdom.<\/p>\n
