[Intro]
Trade war!
(Say “No more!)
Confess…
(It’s such a mess)

[Verse 1]
As President of the United States
And for all it hates
I declare, I’m unaware
Should have woke
Before I spoke

[Chorus]
Trade war!
(Oh, the gore)
Confess…
(It’s such a mess)

Trade war!
(Brought on poor)
So to pour
(The reign of pain)

[Bridge]
Undone
(For generations to come)
No one
(Has won when said and done)

[Verse 2]
By Executive Order
I’ve ordered the border
An economic emergency
Can you see…
Don the Con has never gone

[Chorus]
Trade war!
(Oh, the gore)
Confess…
(It’s such a mess)

Trade war!
(Brought on poor)
So to pour
(The reign of pain)

[Bridge]
Undone
(For generations to come)
No one
(Has won when said and done)

[Outro]
Trade war!
(Oh, the gore)
Trade war!
(No, no more)

ABOUT THE SONG
On April 2, President Trump unilaterally declared a trade war against the rest of the world, imposing protectionist tariffs on 180 countries — calling it “.” This action was taken without congressional approval and in direct violation of the Constitution.

A coalition of world leaders from diverse countries has come together to voice concerns about the U.S. tariff policies under President Donald Trump. Their unified response signals the growing unease surrounding the economic fallout of the administration’s trade strategies, with several nations, including some of the U.S.’s closest allies, standing in opposition.

Countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea, and other major U.S. partners have not only condemned Trump’s actions but have also voiced the potential economic damage these tariffs could inflict. These nations are now positioning themselves to take collective action, highlighting a shift in the global dynamic that risks isolating the U.S. on the international stage.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was particularly vocal in her remarks, emphasizing the far-reaching consequences of these trade policies. “The consequences will be dire for millions of people around the world. We are ready to respond,” she declared, signaling Europe’s readiness to take countermeasures. The European Union, along with other countries, is preparing a coordinated response to the tariffs, which could include retaliatory tariffs. economic sanctions, and boycotts.

The economic impact of these tariffs is already being felt globally. While the U.S. has claimed that the trade war aims to level the playing field and protect American workers, the reality is that the tariffs have resulted in price hikes for goods ranging from electronics to agricultural products. U.S. businesses that rely on imported components have seen their production costs rise, and consumers are beginning to feel the pinch as goods become more expensive.

A Crisis of This Magnitude Has Not Been Seen in Nearly 100 Years

While past recessions were driven by financial collapses (such as 2008’s mortgage crisis or the dot-com bubble in 2000), this economic crisis is entirely policy-driven. The sheer scale of the tariffs, combined with global retaliation and the isolation of the U.S., has created a trade collapse not seen since the 1930s. If history is any guide, the consequences could be severe, with prolonged economic hardship, market instability, and lasting damage to U.S. credibility in global trade.

A SCIENCE NOTE

The climate crisis is mysterious in the sense that, despite overwhelming scientific evidence and visible consequences, there are still uncertainties, contradictions in public perception, and unexpected feedback loops. Here are some key reasons why it remains enigmatic:

1. Complex Interactions & Feedback Loops

Climate systems involve intricate relationships between the atmosphere, oceans, land, and biosphere. Feedback loops—like melting ice reducing reflectivity (albedo effect) or thawing permafrost releasing methane—can amplify changes in ways that are hard to predict precisely.

2. Extreme Weather Variability

While climate change increases the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, the randomness of specific events makes it hard to directly attribute them to climate change in real-time.

3. Lag Between Cause and Effect

CO₂ emitted today will continue to warm the planet for centuries. The delayed response between greenhouse gas emissions and full climate impacts makes it difficult for people to connect actions with consequences.

4. Economic & Political Contradictions

Governments and corporations acknowledge climate change yet continue policies that worsen it. Fossil fuel subsidies, lack of stringent regulations, and political inertia create a paradox where solutions exist but aren’t implemented at the necessary scale.

5. Public Perception & Psychological Barriers

Some people see climate change as an abstract, future problem rather than an urgent crisis. Misinformation, cognitive biases, and media framing create confusion or apathy, despite clear scientific warnings.

6. Unforeseen Consequences & Tipping Points

Scientists are discovering new climate tipping points, such as collapsing ocean currents or rainforest dieback, which could accelerate warming much faster than expected. The full extent of these risks remains uncertain.

7. Survival vs. Convenience Dilemma

Many climate solutions require systemic change that conflicts with economic growth models. The tension between short-term economic benefits and long-term survival creates a moral and strategic paradox.
