ABOUT THE SONG
The Bugs Bunny quote is “Arise, Sir Loin of Beef!” from the 1949 cartoon Rabbit Hood. In the scene, Bugs Bunny, disguised as the king, is “knighting” the Sheriff of Nottingham and gives him a series of silly titles, all of which are puns on food or other common phrases.

ABOUT THE SONG

The new release of the day, “Tomfoolery,” is a satirical rock opera of sorts — a blend of piano improvisation, fuzzed-out electric guitar, shimmering synths, and a bass line that hits like a political punchline. The song takes aim at the literal and figurative destruction of the White House, wrapped in a soundscape that channels my appreciation for The Beatles’ wit and David Bowie’s cosmic commentary.

From the opening line — “What is this tomfoolery? (White House adorned in jewelry)” — it sets the tone for a carnival of chaos and hypocrisy. Between verses like “More procrastinator than a dictator” and the echoing refrain of “Ground control to Major Tom (What’s going on?)” the song moves between the absurd and the alarming — a surreal jam session at the edge of empire.

It’s social critique with swagger — rock satire for the end times — and a reminder that sometimes, when reality itself becomes a farce, the only rational response is to sing, “What is this tomfoolery?” and let the amps do the talking.

Tomfoolery means foolish or silly behavior, such as pranks, jokes, or general silliness. The word originated from the 17th-century term “tom fool,” which referred to a jester or buffoon, and by the 1810s, the term “tomfoolery” was combined to describe this type of playful foolishness.

* Definition: Foolish, silly, or senseless behavior.
* Examples: Engaging in pranks, horsing around, or other lighthearted antics.
* Origin: The term comes from “tom fool,” a term used for jesters and fools in the 17th century. It was combined with “-ery” to form “tomfoolery” by the 1810s, and it first appeared in print around 1812.

ABOUT THE SONG

The new release of the day, “Subject Line:” is from the upcoming album Title — a playful, heartfelt song about love, hope, and finding rhythm in the everyday. It features an improvised piano performance — raw, expressive, and spontaneous — as I’ve been spending a lot more time behind the keys lately. Piano was the first instrument I ever became disciplined on… and then, undisciplined on. (Maybe vice versa — or maybe that’s just jazz.)

Like the lyrics say, “It’s about love, it’s about hope, it’s about scope — all the above.” The song blurs the line between message and melody, between email subject and emotional subject. It’s introspective, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

From the opening line, “Subject line: About this song…” to the final refrain, “Sing along,” it’s a reminder that sometimes the best way to communicate — or to connect — is simply to hit send and let the music do the talking.

So check your inbox — and your heart — because this “Subject Line” might be for you. 💌🎶

ABOUT THE SONG: Monthly Native moon names associated with strength
Including the Buck Moon, Wolf Moon, Strong Sun Moon, and moons connected with bears. It’s important to remember that moon names vary among different Native American tribes, each with its own unique interpretations.

Monthly moon names associated with strength
  • Buck Moon: The July full moon is named for the time of year when male deer (bucks) begin growing new antlers. Antlers represent strength and virility as they signify the male deer’s power during the peak of summer.
  • Wolf Moon: The January full moon is named for the wolf packs that howl during the cold winter nights, representing tenacity and strength. While historically associated with hunger, wolves actually howl to reinforce social bonds and mark their territory.
  • Strong Sun Moon: According to some Medicine Wheel traditions, this is a moon of rapid growth and trust that occurs around the summer solstice. It is associated with a strong connection to the heart and the ability to work from that center, which develops courage and power.
  • Bear Moon: Several tribes associate moons with bears, typically around January or February, the time when bear cubs are born. The bear is a symbol of strength and introspection in many Native cultures. For the Miami people, the “Black Bear Moon” (December/February) is named for the mother bears giving birth, which signifies vitality and power.
  • Thunder Moon: Another name for the July full moon is the Thunder Moon, referring to the frequent thunderstorms during this period. The power and intensity of thunder are a direct link to strength.
  • Hunter’s Moon: For some tribes, the October full moon signifies the time for hunting animals that are fattened up before winter. It represents the resourcefulness and survival skills necessary for the harsh winter months.

ABOUT THE SONG: Longest-Lasting Fruit on the Vine

Examples of fruits that have a long “hang time” or a long shelf life, suggesting they are slow to ripen or spoil, and can remain on the plant for extended periods.
  • Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and mandarins can stay on the tree for months. One source notes that an Owari Satsuma Mandarin can ripen in December and hold its fruit until March.
  • Grapes are described as having a long shelf life due to a waxy coating that prevents moisture loss.
  • Figs are another example, with some varieties, like the ‘Bordissot Negra Rimada,’ known for being a slow-ripening fruit that can take over four months to mature.
  • Hardy kiwi vines produce fruit that remains green when ripe, which helps to hide them from birds, allowing them to hang on the vine until you want to pick them.
  • Avocados, specifically the Hass variety, ripen in April but can be harvested until the end of September.
Many of these fruits are considered “non-climacteric,” meaning they do not continue to ripen after being picked. This is in contrast to “climacteric” fruits like apples, bananas, and tomatoes, which will ripen even after they are removed from the plant.
