Coversong made famous by Five Man Electrical Band
Written by Les Emmerson

               C G D G
And the sign said long haired, freaky people, need not apply.
         D A G A
So, I tucked my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him why?
      Bm G Bm G
He said, you look like a fine, upstanding young man, I think you`ll do.
          D A G A
So, I took off my hat... I said, imagine that..huh, me, workin for you.

CHORUS:
D C D
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenery,
G
breaking my mind.
D A C D D7sus
Do this, don`t do that..can`t you read the si....gn?

#2.
               C G D G
And the sign said, anybody caught trespassing, would be shot on sight.
         D A G A
So, I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house..hey, what gives you the right?..
    Bm G Bm G
to put up a fence to keep me out..or to keep mother nature in?
    D A G A
If God was here, He`d tell you to your face, Man, you`re some kinda sinner.
CHORUS --> BRIDGE
          A
Now, hey you, mister, can`t you read?
              G D
You`ve got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat.
A Bm D
You can`t even watch, no, you can`t eat... you ain`t supposed to be here.
C G D G
Sign said you got to have a membership card to get inside..unnh!

#3.
D C G D G
And the sign said, everybody welcome, come in, kneel down and pray.
                          D A G A
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all, I didn`t have a penny to pay.
         Bm G Bm G
So, I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign.
           D A
I said, thank you Lord, for thinking about me..
    G A
I`m alive and doing fine.

CHORUS / OUTRO:
D C
Sign, sign, everywhere a sign..

LYRICS
… as we pass through here
As we’re passing through here
… through hear

Do you fear the atmosphere you hold so dear
Isn’t coming in clear
It’s not so clear

Do you hear the sphere we hold so dear
Is shedding a tear
Sheds a tear

The way we tear right through there
As we pass through here
The way we tear it up going through there
As we pass through here

LYRICS
You get what you pay for
Not a penny more
Will you get what you pray for?
It’s anybody’s guess for sure

Do you have that drive to stay alive
So your body will endure
Do you strive to drive the alive
To care about their core

You get what you play for
Someday could be folklore

LYRICS
The waves keep rollin’… rollin’ in
Makes me wonder… when did it begin?
I don’t understand
How long they’ve been poundin’ sand
How long is always
How can there be that many days?

The world keeps spinnin’… spinnin’ again
Makes me wonder when did it all begin
I don’t understand
How long has it been turning ’round
How long is always
How can there be that many days?

Sometimes time steps out of time
Sometimes time is out of time
Sometimes you find… out of time

My favorite thing with time —
It will rhyme with rhyme
Time rhyme

Time and time again
In time, time runs out of time
In the end….

LYRICS
Enough nonsense about where you’ve been
Praying we don’t have to hear it again

Do you gotta confess where you’re coming from
I’d rather you profess where you’re going to
Enough nonsense about where you’ve been
Praying we don’t have to hear it again

Just for fun
Let your dreams run
No matter how mild
Let them run wild!

It’s kind-of pointless where’ you’re coming from
Avoid the mess… What are you going to do?
Enough nonsense about where you’ve been
Praying we don’t have to hear it again

LYRICS
Light as a balloon
Floating like a feather
Feel it will be soon
Change of the weather/whether

In the vision
A decision
On indecision
(In unison)

Aroma in the breeze
Rose in the heather
Comes to me with ease
Change of the weather/whether

Chorus

Is it dusk or dawn
Twilight in our theater
The change is upon
Change of the weather/whether

I can see so clearly
You love me dearly
How to see after dark
Lightin’ love’s spark

In decision comes night vision
I love you. I do!

To help me think a little clearer
Now phased, dazed and confuse
Mind tattered, battered and bruised

Mind scattered, shattered, compromised

The comfort you bring
Is so comforting
Hear angels sing
Here angels sing

More like a rat

Or well…
Are we creating our hell?

LYRICS
What is this reality
All about me
Is it all about me
What is this reality all about me
Is it all about me

As we march toward eternity
Is this my reality
As we march toward the eternal infinity
Will we get off our seat and on our feet
And come some more clearly
That we are we
It’s hard to argue that
As a matter of fact
We are we
As a matter of fact
That’s where we’re at
It’s beyond me
And my mortality
’cause I can see
More clearly
That I’m going to die
Sooner or later I’ll be “later gator”

Do you think they feel
Do you think they feel anything at all

Do you think they know
Do you think they know it’s real
Do you think they know how to feel

Do you think it’s real
Do you think they know how to feel
Do you think they lost the feel of real
What has come has gone
No more dawn
The final sunset
Then, the light won’t shine
The dark may be our regret
Do you bet?
Ya, I bet
Our final regret

Can you recall at all
How it feels to be real
Do you have any recollection
Of that convection
How it feels to be real
Don’t have to grovel or kneel
To know how to feel real

bookmark_borderIko Iko

“Iko Iko” (/ˈaɪkoʊ ˈaɪkoʊ/) is a much-covered New Orleans song that tells of a parade collision between two “tribes” of Mardi Gras Indians and the traditional confrontation. The song, under the original title “Jock-A-Mo”, was written and released as a single in 1953 by Sugar Boy and his Cane Cutters.

In the 60’s, the Dixie Cups’s recorded a version that became a hit. New Orleans singer and pianist Dr. John covered “Iko Iko” in 1972 for his fifth studio album Dr. John’s Gumbo. It has also been covered by the Grateful Dead who made “Iko Iko” a staple in their live shows from 1977 onward.
