[Style: Psychedelic Science-Rock / Progressive Surf-Rock / Full Blown]
[Intro]
Flap…
(Flap, flap)
A little change…
(And what’s the same?)
One little flutter
(One tiny shove)
Can shake the system
(Destroy our love)
[Verse 1]
A whisper in the atmosphere
A ripple traveling far from here
A little change, a distant start
A million pathways come apart
The pieces move, the patterns bend
And where it starts is not the end
[Pre-Chorus]
Millions…
(Billions…)
Trillions in play
Who knows where the ripples go today?
[Refrain]
How is the butterfly effect…
(… affecting you?)
Is there chaos there?
(… chaos in the air)
… chaos everywhere?
A small perturbation
(… can propagate)
As the fleeting teleconnection
(Amplifies at an exponential rate)
[Verse 2]
A cloud shifts over a warming sea
A current changes what winds will be
The ice retreats, the oceans rise
And feedback wakes before our eyes
One system shifts, the next one bends
And round and round the coupling sends
[Pre-Chorus]
Millions…
(Billions…)
Trillions connect
A network with effects we can’t detect?
[Refrain]
How is the butterfly effect…
(… affecting you?)
Is there chaos there?
(… chaos in the air)
… chaos everywhere?
A small perturbation
(… can propagate)
As the fleeting teleconnection
(Amplifies at an exponential rate)
[Bridge]
We count the pieces
(One by one)
But the connections
(Have only begun)
A million pathways
(A billion more)
Trillions of interactions
(We opened the door)
Feedback coupling
(Coming alive)
One change spreads
(Through the whole hive)
[Instrumental]
[Breakdown]
(Flap… flap…)
(Ripple… ripple…)
(Couple… amplify…)
Do you know…
(Where will it go?)
Millions!
(Billions!)
Trillions!
(And counting!)
… still mounting…
(And counting!)
… still mounting…
(And counting!)
[Final Refrain]
How is the butterfly effect…
(… affecting you?)
Is there chaos there?
(… chaos in the air)
… chaos everywhere?
A small perturbation
(… can propagate)
As the fleeting teleconnection
(Amplifies at an exponential rate)
[Outro]
How is the butterfly effect…
(… affecting you?)
Can we see what’s coming?
(We can see some clues)
Feedback coupling
(Connecting the chain)
One small perturbation
(And we changed the game)
Flap…
(Flap, flap)
A little change…
(Travels far)
Millions…
(Billions…)
Trillions of ways…
… still mounting…
(And counting!)
… more by the day
The network shifts
(The feedbacks grow)
Where it ends…
(We don’t yet know)
The butterfly effect…
(It’s affecting you.)
[Fade out]
The butterfly effect…
(It’s affecting you.)
… and you… and you, too
[Silence]
[End]
About the Song
Feedback Coupling
THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT: A small perturbation can propagate across the entire network.
MILLIONS → BILLIONS → TRILLIONS
POSSIBLE FEEDBACK INTERACTIONS
FEEDBACK COUPLING IS EMERGING
We cannot yet predict how these interactions will propagate and amplify as they unfold.
THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT
A small perturbation can propagate across the entire network.
