LYRICS
You know what I think would be nice
Put back snow
Put back ice
Maybe to start thinking…
Thinking twice
Not some other time

Lead us through a revolution
Seed solution for pollution
Maybe get the notion of motion
Not some other time

You know what I think would be cool
Temperature not so cruel
Educate the primate
… climate fool
Not some other time
Not some of time

Participate
Syncopate
With the rhythm and rhyme
Not some other time
Not some of time
Not some other time
Not some of time
Rhythm and rhyme

A song inspired by Tommy James & the Shondells’ “Draggin’ the Line”:
Takin’ and givin’ my day by day
I dig snow and rain and bright sunshine
We ain’t got much but what we got’s ours
We dig snow and rain and bright sunshine
I feel fine, I’m talkin’ ’bout peace of mind
I’m gonna take my time
I’m gettin’ the good sign
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)

LYRICS
She’s got a Spring in her step
Depth and breadth
Until the Fall
Less our malfeasance
Scour consequence
With no reason for season

[Bob Marley inspired interlude]
Don’t be absurd
There’s not a bird
To sing sweet songs
Melodies pure and true
This is my message to you
Best hurry
Here’s the thing
Every little thing
Ain’t quite right

She’s got a Spring in her step
Depth and breadth
Until the Fall
Less our malfeasance
Scour consequence
With no reason for season

A song about how human induced climate change is taking the Spring out of Mother Nature’s step. It is feeling more and more like summer from February through November. There use to be signs of hope. Signs that humans would make sure every thing would be alright. Now we are killing all the insects, trees, and birds. Monitored populations of vertebrates (mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish) have already seen a devastating 69% drop.

It wasn’t then
Like it is now?
When we were sure
To ensure
More future
Do whatever we need to do
Those days are over
No matter how long you long
Forget recover
From all we’ve done wrong
And you do what we need to do
Fantastic plastic
More polymer
Fast with gas
Burn, baby, burn
Burn, burn, burn
Yearn…
Do you remember when
It wasn’t then
Like it is now?
Wow

Get on your horse and ride

About the Song

In June of 2023, we were discussing animal agriculture, carbon offsets and sequestration, planting trees, and greenwashing. I asked, “Is it a mistake for us to even suggest staying under 1.5 C is a possibility?” Sidd replied, “1.5 C is in the rear view mirror these days.”

During the first week of July 2023, the Earth had the hottest days ever.

How long is “ever”… as in “the hottest it’s ever been in recorded history”?

Humans are about 200,000 years old with our closest variety being dated to about 140,000 years ago. The earliest “recording of history” is approximately 100,000 years old. It is the story of The Seven Sisters of The Pleiades. The Seven Sister are a cluster of stars in the Taurus constellation. There are six stars visible to the naked eye. The story is about seven stars. The seventh star has not been visible to the naked eye for over 100,000 years.

The 20th-century surface temperature average for Earth was 13.9 °C.
In July of 2023 we are seeing average temperatures of 17°C.

Q: Is it possible for humans to push the temperature 3 °C above pre-industrial levels?
A: Yes. Humans have pushed global temperatures up more than 3 °C.

Q: Is it possible for humans to survive at temperatures greater than 3 °C?
A: Probably not long. Humans have never done it before.

Extreme weather will become more frequent and intense. Sea levels will rapidly rise as the coasts disappear. However, the most concerning development will be feedback loops. Plants and other carbon sinks will disappear. The Earth’s temperature will continue to accelerate at an exponential rate no matter what humans do. Food, fresh water, and breathable air will cease to exist. Humans will likely follow in short order.

“The increasing heating of our planet caused by fossil fuel use is not unexpected, it was predicted already in the 19th century after all,” said climate scientist Stefan Rahmstorf at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research in Germany. “But it is dangerous for us humans and for the ecosystems we depend on. We need to stop it fast.”

This is our current situation. Not “years away”. Not tomorrow. Today.

Stop burning fossil fuels today, stop exploiting hydrocarbons today, or else….

Somersaults in the air
Falling without care
As if not there
Under the spell
I fell
The sincerity of gravity
It’s all around
Don’t let it get you down
Down, down, down

The severity of gravity
It’s all around
Don’t let it get you down
Down, down, down

The clarity
I found in gravity
Reality
Groundbreaking
No faking
Reality

It’ll hit you hard
Leave you marred

LYRICS
Hot summer days
Wonder if it’ll be cool tonight
Scorching away
I’d say
Chances are slight
The crisis of ices
Is today

I better make-way
It’s not right to make light
A public display
An array of might can’t make right
The crisis of ices
Fabrics fray

Hot summer nights
Hot in oh so many ways
Summon up fright
Insight into decay
The crisis of ices
Tonight

LYRICS
What does the center of gravity
Have to do with my belly
You push my button

How novel the navel
How low or how high
Swim as if fins
Or run like I fly
Let’s push our buttons
Equilibrium glutton
Push the button
But out
Butt in
Pushin’ buttons

No spin or rotate debate
Sure, I participate
No doubt I flail about
But for certain the button
Is quick to be smooth…
Slick
… in the grove
Parabolic
Trajectory
Live relative
To an ape’s escape velocity
Force of gravity
Getting to me
Coming down to Earth
For what it’s worth

DR0000_0089-Center-of-Gravity.mp3

The center of gravity, in physics, is an imaginary point in a body of matter where the total weight of the body may be considered to be concentrated. If supported at the center of gravity, the body remains in equilibrium in any position.

“Your navel is your center of gravity, so that affects your sense of balance. Researchers say the exact location of your belly button can even determine your best sport. Your potential to be a good runner is greater if your navel is high, and, if it’s lower, you may be a better swimmer.” — Deutsche Welle (DW)

“An object thrown through the air may spin and rotate, but its center of gravity will follow a smooth parabolic path,” — Boston University

“A radial parabolic trajectory is a non-periodic trajectory on a straight line where the relative velocity of the two objects is always the escape velocity.” — Wikipedia

LYRICS
The bottom’s the floor
The exit’s the door
These rules apply no more
Turned upside-down
Is going around
The chicken has crossed the road
Why? Nobody knows
(Carry the load…
Anyway the wind blows)

Some days you see the sun
Night gives way to dawn
These rules are dead and gone
Turned upside-down
Is going around
The chicken has crossed the road
Why? Nobody knows
(Carry the load…
Anyway the wind blows)

Some days are hot and others not
It’s not always flood or drought
Those rules are now in doubt
Turned upside-down
Is going around
The chicken has crossed the road
Why? Nobody knows
(Carry the load…
Anyway the wind blows)

bookmark_borderOver the Sunset

LYRICS
Over the sunset
Under the clouds
The last ray of the day
Makes it my way
With a shine so fine
I’m golden
Loving the time
I’m holdin’

Lover of “not yet”
Wonder out-loud
Grasp the last ray
Coming this way
With a shine so fine
I’m golden
Loving the time
I’m holdin’

Under the sunset
Bouncing off clouds
Hey! One more ray
Found it my way
With a shine so fine
I’m golden
Loving the time
I’m holdin’

I see the light
Red and blue scattered in the hue
The sight
I see the light

Why is the sky blue?
“Sunlight reaches Earth’s atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by all the gases and particles in the air. Blue light is scattered more than the other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.” — NASA

Why are sunsets red and purple?
“More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes. If the path is long enough, all of the blue and violet light scatters out of your line of sight. The other colors continue on their way to your eyes. This is why sunsets are often yellow, orange, and red.” — University of Wisconsin

What is the effect of atmospheric refraction at sunset?
“The sun is visible to us about after the actual sunset. This is because of atmospheric refraction, which is due to the apparent flattening of the sun’s disc at sunrise and sunset.” — BYJU’s

My girlfriend
Is cold as ice
Said “The end.”
And, that’s not nice
Polar opposites
We’re breaking up
Solar refugees
Adrift at sea
Calving
Halving
Split and shed
Humanity
Insanity
Soon be dead
Should we dread?

My girlfriend
Skates thin ice
Said “The end.”
Didn’t think twice
Polar opposites
We’re breaking up
Solar refugees
Adrift at sea
Calving
Halving
Split and shed

Soon be dead
Should we dread?

Is it absurd to love an iceberg
or the pleasure of a glacier?
Think of how she must have felt
When we made her heart melt
