bookmark_borderWWII (The Ice Cream Chill)

LYRICS
Had to beg my brother
For a little sugar
Had to make the sugar
Last a little further
Trying to make the gas last
Toothpaste tubes into shrapnel
Ice cream treat rare and special
Had to beg my brother
For a little sugar
Had to make the sugar
Last a little further
He would rather not bother
Chances were slim with him
Had to beg my brother
For a little sugar
Had to make the sugar
Last a little further
Remembering the war that passed
Reminiscing life in the past
Reminiscing the scene

December seven… miles from heaven
On a date with infamy
Render “we shall never surrender”
And join our warring family
Remembering the obscene scene

The head of a little girl will fill
With the sound of sirens from an air raid drill
And over head, as the little girl goes to sleep at night
Search lights fueling the fright
Is that right?
That’s not right
Right?

Finally, all the way to the light of day
I scream…
Ice cream
The head of a little girl will fill with an ice cream chill
Ice cream in our freezer — a better day
As the thoughts of a little girl fill
Gone is feeling fear that way

ABOUT THE SONG
Style: ExperiMental Music
Chords: Cm Csus4 Cm7 C
Rhythm: 67 –> 81 BPM
Recording: digital 15-track stereo
Instrumentation: Vocals, Keyboards and Synthesizers

I was listening to my mother being interviewed about her life. During World War II, she was a little girl (5 to 8-years-old.) After remembering all the shortages and difficulties, she recalled not having felt that fear again. The United States has felt safe and secure for the rest of her life.

During the war period, a horse drawn carriage would bring a block of ice for the refrigerator. It wasn’t until after the war that the family could get an electric refrigerator and freezer for ice cream.

December 7, 1941 — “a date which will live in infamy,” President Franklin D. Roosevelt
“We shall never surrender,” Winston Churchill (4 June 1940)

The music turned out to be inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall.

The future comes
Headed right at you
Scared stiff fright

LYRICS
Do you remember
All those years ago
When you wondered
About the wonders
Of the world

Go swinging on the monkey bars
Dream up things and shoot for the stars
The days when we’d climb trees
Dream of days when we’d look back at these

Chorus

Go swimming on hot summer days
Play you guitar and try to amaze
Make paper airplanes fly with the breeze
Dream of days when we’d look back on these

Chorus
