bookmark_borderNo Sleep Tonight

LYRICS
After all is said and done
Alright?
Until we’ve won some
Sunlight
Alright!
There’s no sleep tonight
There’s no sleep tonight

Gotta find the years
To put back the ice
All or our fears
’cause we weren’t nice
After all is said and done
Alright?
Until we’ve won some
Sunlight
Alright!
There’s no sleep tonight
There’s no sleep tonight

Gotta find the time
To clean up the air
Caused us to whine
… and wheeze… to be fair
After all is said and done
Alright?
Until we’ve won some
Sunlight
Alright!
There’s no sleep tonight
There’s no sleep tonight

Gotta find a way
To tame the hurricane
Because I hate to say
We’re the lame humane
After all is said and done
Alright?
Until we’ve won some
Sunlight
Alright!
There’s no sleep tonight
There’s no sleep tonight

Gotta find the will
To adapt our habit (fossil fuel fool)
Well, because until…
Or else we’ve had it
After all is said and done
Alright?
Until we’ve won some
Sunlight
Alright!
There’s no sleep tonight
There’s no sleep tonight

LYRICS
Is today the day
Get on your soapbox
And say
Hey, hey, hey!
Walk right this way
You’ll be happy to pay
For a pair of shackles and locks
We’re bound to our trajectory
Cast our die to die retroactively
Isn’t it plain for all to see
Isn’t it plain for all to see
Plain to see

Is today the day
You sound the alarm
And say
Hey, hey, hey!
Walk right this way
You already paid
For fear and harm
We’re bound to our trajectory
Cast our die to die retroactively
Isn’t it plain for all to see
Isn’t it plain for all to see
Plain to see

Is today the day
Get let it be known
And say
Hey, hey, hey!
Please clear the way
You don’t have to pay
There’s no one
Cast our die to die retroactively
Isn’t it plain for all to see
Isn’t it plain for all to see
Plain to see

LYRICS
I’m on the marks for the get-go
On the ready for the show
Their minds are set on the don’t know
And whichever way the winds blow
If it blows to the right
Then they just might
Fight over what is left
Or who is more daft
(No one laughs?!?!)

I’m on the marks for the get-go
On the ready for the show
Their minds are set on the don’t know
And whichever way the winds blow
If it blows to the East
They’ll do the least
If it blows to the West
… even less
Beasts at best

I’m on the marks for the get-go
On the ready for the show
Their minds are set on the don’t know
And whichever way the winds blow
If it blows from the South
Watch your mouth
They don’t believe in pollution solution
As far as they can see
It’s a conspiracy

I’m on the marks for the get-go
On the ready for the show
Their minds are set on the don’t know
And whichever way the winds blow

A song about:
According to an analysis from the Center for American Progress, there are still 139 Republicans in the 117th Congress, including 109 representatives and 30 senators, who refuse to acknowledge the scientific evidence of human-caused climate change. All 139 of these climate-denying Republicans have made recent statements casting doubt on the clear, established scientific consensus that the world is warming—and that human activity is to blame. These same 139 climate-denying Republicans have received more than $61 million in lifetime contributions from the coal, oil, and gas industries.

LYRICS
Make a split decision
Is it, “My way or the highway”?
Then can you envision
Running out of gas real fast?
Can’t last past our past
(Very much longer)
Can’t last past our past
(Is it any wonder?)
Can’t last past our past

Take the span of our decisions
How often do we take the wrong way?
Given Man’s lack of vision
What makes you think it will be O.K.?
Can’t last past our past
(Very much longer)
Can’t last past our past
(Is it any wonder?)
Can’t last past our past

When asked, “Cake or pie?”
We said, “Oh, but, why? I want it all!”
It’s now do or die
We said, “Oh, but, why? As we fall….
Can’t last past our past
(Very much longer)
Can’t last past our past
(Is it any wonder?)
Can’t last past our past

LYRICS
The empty cup
We start to fill up
Till half-way there
We have to compare
Euphemism on optimism
An easy way to refute dispute
Look to the heart
Then to start
Opt to fill it to the top
We’ll soon discover
Our cup runneth over
And, over

The empty cup
We start to fill up
Till half-way there
We have to compare
Euphemism on pessimism
An easy way to refute dispute
Look to the heart
Then to start
Opt to fill it to the top
We’ll soon discover
Our cup runneth over
And, over

An easy way make our day
Look to the heart
Then to start
Opt to fill it to the top
We’ll soon discover
Our cup runneth over
And, over

LYRICS
Accelerate
What’s the debate?
At any rate
It’s too, too late
Wishless
Into the abyss
Like this….

Can’t regulate
Out-of-control
Look at our state
What is your role?
Wishless
Into the abyss
Like this….

Can’t slow
Can’t wait
Got to make haste
All show
Post-date
Got to make waste
Wishless
Into the abyss
Like this….

Accelerate
What’s the debate?
At any rate
It’s not too late
It’s too, too late

At what rate is climate change accelerating?
A: Rapidly
As described above, we do not know the rate of acceleration other than to say it is more rapid than previously thought. In the summer of 2023, the extreme temperatures left most climate scientists shocked. The average earth surface temperature recorded record highs for months reaching over 3 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The Paris Agreement calls for keeping temperatures below 1.5 degrees. Scientists concur that a rise of 2 degrees will trigger feedback loops and tipping points. Triggering these tipping points results in the CO2 stored in nature to be released. Though we do not know how much carbon is stored in nature, it would be reasonable to assume that the temperature could be pushed from 3 degrees to 6 degrees above pre-industrial levels. Humans can not thrive above a rise of 1.5 degrees. Humans can not survive if the temperature rises 6 degrees.

About the 2023 wildfires in Hawaii, Governor Josh Green said, “For perspective, we’ve had six fire emergencies this August, we had six fire emergencies between 1953 and 2003. That’s how- how fast things are changing. I know that there is debate out there whether we should be talking about climate change or not. Well, let’s be real world, climate change is here we are in the midst of it with a hotter planet, and fiercer storms.”

About the catastrophic die-off of 10,000 emperor penguin chicks in the Antarctic, Dr. Caroline Holmes of the British Antarctic Survey (an expert on Antarctic sea-ice) said, “What we’re seeing right now is so far outside what we’ve observed previously. We expected change but I don’t think we expected so much change so rapidly.” — from “Climate Change: Rate of Acceleration” / Brouse and Mukherjee (2023)

LYRICS
As I reflect
The light bounces back
We all neglect
The sight… nonsense hack
Got to do the dishes
Got to take out the trash
Forget children’s wishes
While their dreams we dash
Our best

The light bouncing
Gives my color hue
The might pouncing
Paints my point-of-view
Got to do the dishes
Got to take out the trash
Forget children’s wishes
While their dreams we dash
Our best

The light absorbing
Photosynthesis
The dark that’s coming
Will relinquish this
Got to do the dishes
Got to take out the trash
Forget children’s wishes
While their dreams we dash
Our best

This song is about the literal and the figurative meanings of “reflect”. What do you reflect upon when you see the reflection of climate change?

re·flect
/rəˈflek(t)/
verb

1. (of a surface or body) throw back (heat, light, or sound) without absorbing it.
“Objects appear colored because of the way they reflect light. Sunlight is a mixture of all colors of light, which combine to form brilliant white light. Some surfaces reflect all of this light, while others absorb some of the colors.
2. think deeply or carefully about.
“he reflected with sadness on human induced climate change”

I can see
With my eyes closed
What will be
The “I’s” impose
Our will we will instill until
Wait! Too late… I spoke too fast
Our will we kill
… it can’t last
If we’re past

I can see
With my eyes closed
What will be
The “I’s” impose
With our dollars and hollers
For hours on ours
Me, my, mine all the time
Human rights crime

I can see
With my eyes closed
What will be
The “I’s” impose
Slash and burn
Yet still we yearn
To dig or more
… all in store
To be sure
Still se drill
Drill until…
Our will we will instill until
Wait! Too late… I spoke too fast
Our will we kill

Remember when we had it so good
Before
Overload our plate
And come back for more
Longing for the way it use to be
Instead of making progress ‘gainst tragedy

Insistent on inevitability
… really?
It’s your man-made destiny
Longing for the way it use to be
Instead of making progress ‘gainst tragedy

Can’t debate we participate
Rapid rate desecrate
The nitwit…
Our fuse is lit
We know
It’s going to blow
Good ending is not enough
From rough…
To muffled snuff

I don’t… not a bit
There goes the habitat

Now, here’s where we’re at:
There’s no going home

Refugees, we flee

How do you like the looks of it?
I don’t… not a bit
There goes the habitat
Like that
Now, here’s where we’re at:
Burning down our home
Out here on our own
Realize our demise

How do you like the looks of it?

Spent our environment
Meant our embarrassment
No new/knew ones

“A wormhole is like a tunnel between two distant points in our universe that cuts the travel time from one point to the other. Instead of traveling for many millions of years from one galaxy to another, under the right conditions one could theoretically use a wormhole to cut the travel time down to hours or minutes.” — Astronomy

“A wormhole is a hypothetical structure connecting disparate points in spacetime, and is based on a special solution of the Einstein field equations. A wormhole can be visualized as a tunnel with two ends at separate points in spacetime (i.e., different locations, different points in time, or both).” — Wikipedia

Fools thinking it’s cool
Cling to beliefs
While acting as thieves
Steal the real deal
Hold that line

Hold that line
“It will all be fine”
Lying…
Amidst the crying
… and dying
Can’t hold back

With the temperature rising
Do you find it surprising
Fools thinking it’s cool
Cooking with gas
Heading real fast
To earn no return
Hold that line
“We can turn back time”
Hold that line
“It will all be fine”
Lying…
Amidst the crying
… and dying
Can’t hold back

With the temperature rising
Do you find it surprising
Fools thinking it’s cool
Though the End does loom

Dear, hold my beer

But I didn’t think it would be
So rapidly
Strange… days indeed
Yet I don’t think all concede
Thick in anthropogenic
Mother’s sick

If mama dies
Baby gonna realize
If mama goes
Then all of those
Come to a close
(Change, I expected to see
Just not so rapidly)
Thick in anthropogenic
Mother’s sick
Peril of the penguin
We break their ice
It breaks my heart
Same mistake again and again
Ignored advice
Go back to start

While babies cry
If mama dies
Baby gonna realize
If mama goes
