Bad astronomy,
Nooo… just can’t be,
Good astronomy,
Watching over me.

Brown dwarf?
Make me barf,
You can forget,
That old midget,
You can bet,
An odd object,
Is what you get,
Tightening the Kuiper Belt.

It was not too far,
It could be felt,
A passing star,
Perturbing Sedna.

Bumped from her area,
Thrown into hysteria,
Now she’s coming,
To our inner system?

An eclectic ecliptic,
An orbit… “messed” a bit,
Will the orbit’s girth,
Collide her with Earth?

Is the sun’s companion,
Our Nemesis?
Will Oort’s pollution,
Hit… or will it miss?

Bad astronomy,
Nooo…. none for me.
Won’t sicken,
With any ‘ole Sichin.

Bad astronomy,
Nooo… just can’t be,
Good astronomy,
Watching over me.

NOTES:
John asks:
Is there a website(s) dedicated to or at least discussing the fallout/ramifications of a passing brown dwarf star, through the Ortt Cloud? There were some studies done by Univ Louisiana and the Royal Astronomical Society, back in the 90’s, suggesting that the spate of comets that we had ,were being kicked out by an unknown object about 1 ly or so out. I mean legitimate studies, or serious discussions, not “Bad Astronomy” or “Sichin”.
Thank You

Sidd replies:
sedna (an odd Kuiper Belt object) is supposed to be one body that may have been perturbed by a passing star. It is theorized that there are other such bodies whose orbital planes should be far from the ecliptic. The existence of the Oort cloud rests on analyses of long period comets, but has never yet been directly observed. The old studies you are referring to … i believe there was some speculation about a large companion body to the sun in a faraway orbit (sometimes called Nemesis) that perturbed hypothetical Oort cloud objects into orbits that passed through the inner system, but there is no real evidence for such an object. for more see the archives of sci.astro, sci.astro.research, and perhaps alt.sci.planetary (please be aware that only the second group mentioned is a moderated newsgroup, so the quality of postings on the other two groups leaves much to be desired)

if you wish, we can do some more research, but that is all i can remember off the top of my head

I thought I could depend,
On Greenland,
I don’t understand,
How’d things get so outta hand?

Mountain glacier,
Washes ashore,
West Antarctica,
Coming right at ya,
Willing to sacrifice,
Greenland’s ice,
East Antarctica?!?!?!?!
Daaaaa…
Heart attack —
Ahhhhh!

With the rising tide,
There’s no place to hide,
A brackish backlash,
Can’t take it in stride,
The divide… toooo wide.

As Tasmanian’s cancer,
Is Nightmare’s romancer,
A Frankenfish,
Scales the wall,
Escaping from,
Man’s great fall,
Yeah, we’re hot,
As our heatwave,
Sends em to their grave,
Yeah, we forgot,
What we’re not:

We’re not so good,
To know what we should,
We’re not too good,
To do what we could.

If we think of the good…
We would.

With the rising tides,
Our ride collides,
A brackish backlash,
Gotta blame it on pride,
And, my selfish inside.

Kingdom come,
Has come undone,
How dumb?
How dumb.

John (of Bakersfield, CA) asked:
Is there a consensus on the maximum sea level rise if all the ice upon land melts ? I have heard from 175ft. to 415 ft. Anybody done an accurate study on this ? Thanks

Sidd replied:
various contributions from ice
a)mountain glaciers: 10 cm — 7 in
b)West Antarctica:500 cm — 15 ft
c)Greenland:500 cm – 15 ft
d)East Antarctica: 7000 cm — 210 ft

also other contributions from thermal expansion of the warming oceans (20 cm/degree/Km) etc…. looks like greenland is goin fast

It’s getting hard to believe,
That we won’t relieve,
I mean… I’m in disbelief,
That we won’t offer relief.

We can’t claim we’re unaware,
Undoubtedly unfair,
It’s evident,
We don’t care,
Though permanent,
It’s dismissed,
Now, we’ve misssssssed,
The boat,
Our ship came in,
But, left again.
Our chance?
Remote.

A severe circumstance,
Makes my journey,
Difficult,
A fear juggernaut,
That’s our own fault,
Gotta change our stance.

Why can’t I see?
Have I…
Grown blind,
Am I that kind?

An insight,
To help us see —
Difficult!
And, it’s our own fault.

That’s right,
You can blame me,
Or, have we all turned…
A blind eye?

Haven’t we learned?

Is there enough time in a century,
To rewrite all of history?

Will it even take a decade to fade?
Please forgive my curiosity,
Sometimes it gets the best of me.

The intuition of the Inuit,
Well… they seem to have it,
Global warming gasers,
Are worse than terrorists,
Slowly killing the masses,
Because self-fulfillment,
We can’t resist,
Bringing on pain through disasters,
Bringing it on faster and faster,
All hopes being dashed,
As time passes,
All hopes… smashed,
Do you think it’s meant?

No! Don’t fade away,
Hey, hey, hey,
Don’t fade away,
Hey!
Let’s move away,
Hey, hey, hey,
From trouble stray,
Hey!
Live another day,
Hey, hey, hey,
Don’t fade away.

Do I flow sooooooo…
You’re up to your eyes?
Do I know so,
And, just compromise?
Compromise the principle,

We thought we had it made,
’til Mercury,
Threw it into retrograde.

We thought, “Made in the shade,”
’til everybody,
Spazzed n’ went into — TIRADE!

Poking each other in the eye,
Could we move any further awry?
Promoting attacks,
Or, turning our backs,
What do I care… barely?
Poked In The Eye As long as it’s not me,
That has to die,
Until I’m left standing alone,
Maybe that would bring it home?
The thought,
The idea,
That we’re in this together,
It’s brought,
To be dear,
Left with myself… forever.

Having thought it threw,
I can speak for me,
But, don’t know about you?
I’m afraid,
Of TIRADE!
No… don’t wanna see TIRADE! on parade.

I thought I smelt something bad,
In Denmark,
Maybe some Limburger cheese I had,
Left its mark?

I study the urge to meddle,
And, in fact,
It’s a craving,
I’ve been having.

Metallurgy is solid,
Something I can get my arms around,
And, it’s been found,
The science is valid,
But, meddle-URGEy,
Is riddled with variables,
Like brain surgery,
We could be left vegetables.

The art of working meddles,
And, how the huckster peddles,
Trying his best,
To sell his mess.

The art of working meddles,
Ore, separating one from other matters?
Extracting one’s responsibility,
From how it effects me.

I study the urge to meddle,
And, in fact,
It’s a craving,
I’ve been having.

NOTES
Webster’s Definition:

See {Metal}, and {Work}.] The art of working metals, comprehending the whole process of separating them from other matters in the ore, smelting, refining, and parting them; sometimes, in a narrower sense, only the process of extracting metals from their ores.

lyrics
Are you out there?
And, can you hear me?
Or, is this not exactly
What you wanted to see?
Does this bother you
Bother you
Bother you
Terribly?

Are you out there?
And, can you hear me?
Is this not
Is this not
Your reality?
Does it bother you
Bother you
Bother you
Terribly?

Are you out there?
Are you listening?
Can you look
Deep within
Can we start again?

In the darkest night
It brings on the fright
Can we get things right
In the darkest night
Can we bring on the light?

Are you out there?
Can you hear me?
Is this not your
Reality
Does this bother you
Bother you
Bother you
Terribly?

Is there anybody out there?
Can you hear me?
Set us free

In the darkest night
Does it bring on the fright
Can we ever get things right?

In the darkest night
Do you feel like the blight
Are you out there
Can you secure
Being part of the cure
Not so far offshore?

Maybe it’s not too late
Don’t wait!

ABOUT THIS SONG
The song was recorded in an impromptu session. It was suppose to be a multi-track recording, but the computer kept failing. Instead, it was captured as a 1 track stereo 48kHz MP3 on an M-audio digital recorder. The drums and keyboards were made on a Casio workstation. The lyrics were sung off the top-of-my-head. Its intending meaning is that a voice from heaven is talking to humankind about what man is doing to the planet and each other.

by

Originally, this song was recorded with the intention of adding vocal tracks; however, the instrumental grew on me. Then, when I went to record vocals, it wasn’t possible due to the intensity of the synthesizer.

The song was written “live” using the Guitar Hero World Tour Recording Studio connected through an Inspire 1394 Controller into Cubase LE as a 48kHz wave file. The .wav was converted to an MP3 using RazorLame.

About This Mess Of Music

bookmark_borderGuitar Music

by Mess

A collection of songs written extemporaneously (for the most part.) Quite a few of the songs were played using a Yamaha electric 6-string guitar through a Digi-tech effects pedal. The 1/4 inch outputs were plugged directly into an M-audio digital recorder and captured as 48kHz MP3 files. Sometimes items, such as a glass bottle neck, were used as slides or for other techniques.

Songs vary from more traditional verse / chorus to unique sonic experiments.

Some of the songs were recorded using a classical nylon string guitar through an open microphone.

bookmark_borderIs There Life On Ours?

While looking down on the human race from high up in a jet airliner, I started thinking about the meaning of life. What will I make of my time on Earth? I have free will. It is my choice whether to take advantage of this gift.

Is there intelligent life on this planet of ours?

lyrics
From a mile high
In the sky
How big am I
Are we all
Rather small
In the big
Picture

A rapture
Of conjecture
To conglomerate
Our fate
Is it destiny
Or self-inflicted
Tragedy
A travesty
Of conflicted
Travelings
From the birth
To the death
Is there intelligent
Life on Earth
Or merely worthless
Time spent

bookmark_borderDis-mist

The lyrics were written while looking out the window of an airplane. I am not sure what I was looking at… but, my guess is we were flying through some ice crystals. The way the sun was hitting them caused them to act like little prisms… and, because of our elevation they were not falling to earth. Instead, they were dancing around. Rather than dismiss the mist, I thought about how the Earth looked like a giant brain with the dancing ice crystals looking like synapses making connections to neurons.

lyrics
Through the mist
I see the mist
Is what I see
And, curiously
I get the gist
Of ice crystals
Dancing
Like neurons
Synaptic
Appear spastic
At first glance
Then the dance
Comes into focus
Less ridicules
Not hocus pocus
A rhyme to the rhythm
A reason to the rhyme
Defeating time
Defeating space
Define the race

bookmark_borderSea Of Clouds

These lyrics were written looking out the window of a jet. Flying coast to coast across America gives you a different perspective. The clouds looked like snow covered mountains. Although, if you tried to land on them, you would sink through them like landing on water. When there was a break in the clouds, you could see a giant quilt of landwork. It made me realize — the layers of matter that make-up our planet are an amazing gift that I can tend to take for granted.

lyrics
A sea of clouds
Appears
As arctic mountains
Above the clouded see
Of mountains
Is there land
From sea to sea
When I can’t
See
Below the sea
Of clouds
That appears
As snow covered
Land
Though I can’t
Land
Upon this land —
The sea of clouds

The layers of particles
That give birth
To this particular
Place called Earth

Then the sea
Begins to part
And I can see
The quilted parts
The particular
Parcels
On which we’ll land
For what it’s worth
Coming down to Earth
