We got to begin
But then went afoul

Almost there

LYRICS
You say
You’re looking for a good time
You say
Hoping today
Well, I’m
Happy to say
Right this way
Let’s go play!
I’ll give it a pull
You can give a push
Which way to the pool
We’re in a rush
A mad dash to the bath

Order atop the pop-pop
I thought I heard it said
While sitting on my head
“Right this way
Let’s go play!”

You say
You’re looking for a good time
You say
Hoping today
Well, I’m
Happy to say
Right this way
Let’s go play!
Sit on the bottom
We’ll float to the top
You push my button
The laughs never stop
In the ear we can hear
I love you, dear

A song co-written with you on September 11, 2023 while your mama and dada went out to a birthday dinner. You loved leading me on new adventures. You would grab my hand and signal, “Walk right this way. Let’s go play.” You also loved sitting on top of my shoulders and going for walks. Sometimes while sitting up there you would start pounding on my head, “Order in the pop-pop!”. Then you would stick your fingers in my ears until I said, “Ears.” Next, you would twist your body around until you could look me right in the eye.

We went for a ride in your wagon. Part-way through you climbed out and wanted to push the wagon backwards, so I helped by pulling backwards with you. You also loved the water. We often played with a hose and little swimming pool. On this night, you took a bath… running down the hall to hop in the tub. Once in the bath, you kept showing me your bellybutton. When you found out that I also had a bellybutton, you would go back and forth between your bellybutton and mine.

Foraging for edible plants was another of your favorite activities. You would guide me to your raspberries, blackberries, and even pineapple mint.

You had very good hearing and could distinguish sounds from great distances.  From cars or trucks to barking dogs, you would recognize and respond.  On this night there was a barking dog a couple blocks away, you lifted your head and barked back.

Most of all, you loved to sing and dance to my guitar. You would jump up and down, come over and strum the strings, and stick your finger in the output jack. Thanks for all your love and care. You are the best songwriting partner.

A song about children suing governments over their right to live.
Litigating for Children’s Right to a Stable and Healthy Climate
Children have filed lawsuits worldwide against their governments over their basic human rights. Our Children’s Trust reported:

In November 2013, hundreds of Dutch citizens, along with the Dutch Urgenda Foundation, sued their government to hold the state liable for failing to take measures to prevent dangerous climate change. The plaintiffs argued that under Dutch tort law, the State could be held liable for negligence due to its failure to adequately reduce greenhouse (GHG) emissions in line with its previous international commitments to reduce emissions by 25-40% by 2020. They also argued that the government’s failure to achieve its GHG emission reduction commitments violated their fundamental rights to life, privacy and health under the European Code of Human Rights. The plaintiffs sought a declaration that the Netherlands was acting unlawfully towards the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs also sought injunctions ordering the Netherlands to limit its GHG emissions to a level of 40%, or at least 25% below 1990 levels before 2020 and to present to Parliament within 6 months a program of measures with corresponding budgets that would ensure such GHG emissions reductions. In June 2015, the Hague District Court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, imposing a 25% reduction of GHG emissions by 2020. The District Court’s decision was upheld by both the Court of Appeals in October 2018 and the Netherlands Supreme Court in December 2019.

In August 2023, the Journal Nature reported:

Advocates for action on climate change won a major court victory in the United States this week. A district court judge ruled in Held v. Montana that Montana’s Environmental Policy Act, which prohibits the state from considering the climate impact of proposed energy projects, violates the “right to a clean and healthful environment” promised by the state’s constitution. Montana’s attorney-general has vowed to appeal. The case was brought in 2020 on behalf of a group of 16 young people, now between 5 and 22 years old, and was litigated by Julia Olson at the non-profit law firm Our Children’s Trust. Olson has been involved with dozens of climate cases since around 2010.

We finally made it home
Unintentionally roamed
Oh how quickly we tire
At fixing a flat tire
Aspire to retire
Desire to avoid pain
Would love to remain
When Murphy’s Law reigns
It pours
Oh how quickly we tire
At fixing a flat tire
We’ve been warned
Then it stormed

Wisdom and brain
Sustain
And the heart
We’ll start
To pull through
Me and you

I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola

L-O-L-A, Lola, Lo lo lo lo lola

Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand

why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
      E
oh my Lola

Lo lo lo lo Lola Lo lo lo lo Lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night

She picked me up and sat me on her knee

Watch the duck make a wake

There’s space
All over the place
So seize “me”

You can get a glimpse
Of a 3-eyed shrimp
At the festival
No more can the dinosaur
Soar or explore

March of the human race
Has left it’s deadly trace
Through the heart of the desert
Planned it
Damn it!

Took the chance to dance
On an ancient stance

Three-Eyed-Dinosaur-Shrimp.mp3

This is a song about the Burning Man festival of 2023. The Metro UK reported, “Floods at Burning Man have woken up organisms that can lie dormant in the dried-out lake bed for decades. Triops and fairy shrimp are small crustaceans that can survive extreme environmental conditions like drought. They do this by laying eggs that can remain dormant for years until the right conditions are met. When it rains, the eggs hatch and the shrimp emerge to live in the newly formed water. Triops are related to the oldest living creature, Triops cancriformis, which is why they are sometimes called ‘dinosaur shrimp’.”

Rain is rare in the desert of Nevada. 70,000 people marching over the mating of 3-eyed shrimp is even rarer. Now the question is — will any of the Three-Eyed Dinosaur Shrimp survive?

LYRICS
Look at the monster we’ve created
Built our Frankenstein
Then we aggravated
Running out of time
(It’s Frankenstein time)
Our beast is on the loose
Let’s see what fear we’ll induce
The extreme havoc we’ll produce

Look at the disasters… all related
From the monster we created
Then aggravated
Of course we should be berated
’cause we’re… running out of time
(It’s Frankenstein time)
Our beast is on the loose
Let’s see what fear we’ll induce
The extreme havoc we’ll produce

Look how mean is our extreme
Knowledge based on a friggin’ meme
Dangerous to all of us

Dangerous to us
Disastrous to us
It’s Frankenstein time
Our beast is on the loose
Let’s see what fear we’ve induced
The extreme havoc we produced
