Writing the Song Nep-Tune on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City

LYRICS

Neptune
There is no inept tune
Hum some. Whistle some.
Hum. Whistle.
Shoot a sonic missile

Underneath the mistletoe
where it’s right to love all
Soar above the noise and confusion
’till you surpass the Grand Illusion

The blessed from Atlantis
the bliss that is
Under the sea

The blessed from Atlantis
the bliss that is
Ability
See! See?

Neptune from the Atlantis abyss
Floats above and saves us

This song is based on Hurricane Irene. I was suppose to play a Bob Marley festival… but, it was canceled due to Atlantic City being under a mandatory evacuation. When I explained my situation to a fan, he said, “Irene’s a bitch.”

Ole Lady leery
Left her lantern in the shed
When the how kicked it over
She winked her I and said,
“If ya know what i mean
My names Irene
Gonna be gnarly
Sorry, no Marely.”

So, we played all night
Into the day
Play, play, play
We played into the rain
The spirit will remain

A tidal surge
Irie sea
Love splurge
See irie

E7#9
Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just don’t seem the same
Actin’ funny, but I don’t know why
. . G . . . . . . . . . . . . . A
‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky

A . . G . . . . E . . . . . . . .A . . . . G . . . . E
All along the watchtower, princes kept the view

While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

I started dreamin’ about playing the Boneyard fest … and it went sumpin’ like this:

Unplugged
. Purple Haze

Add Hammond B3
. All Along The Watch Tower

Start to medley-ize borh
Add / switch over to electric guitars

Plugged
. All Along The Watch Tower

Add more electro-JIMI-techno

. Purple Haze

Full out medley-ize botrh

NOTES:
ideally, we’d add musicians and build as we cycle
Everyone on-board by the end

the kinda tricky part I just started playin’ with… going back n’ forth in the medly-izer

this isn’t quite right… first try, but… perhaps the spirit of it:

About The Soundtracks
These recordings were made in Atlantic City, Ocean City and Wildwood using a Roland Boss Br-600. The two hardest parts of engineering the recordings were:
1) wind protection. The recordings of the ocean were difficult to shield the microphones from wind noise. There was a constant breeze at each location. Several attempts had to be trashed. Eventually, I figured out that I had to leave the recorder in its case in order to protect the on-board condenser mic’s.
2) moving. The recordings on the boardwalk were made while I walked. Holding the recorder, moving and trying to keep up with tram-car were all challenges.

The most nerve racking was making the recording in the casino… as I’m not sure whether you are allowed to record in a casino?
