LYRICS
Oh, Baby
Can’t you see
It’s not the heat
It’s the humidity
(Likely both to some degree)
Need to cool down
Find out how to dry things out
Drowning in drought
Bound…
… to cool things down
Saturation seeks evaporation
Got to sweat it out

Oh, Baby, can you believe
There’s no belief we’ll get relief
Found we’ve unwound
Need to cool down
Find out how to dry things out
Drowning in drought
Bound…
… to cool things down
Saturation seeks evaporation
Got to sweat it out

Though heat is hot
It’s not all we’ve got
There’s plenty of humidity
Pushin’ up “feels like” degree
Need to cool down
Find out how to dry things out
Drowning in drought
Bound…
… to cool things down
Saturation seeks evaporation
Got to sweat it out
Saturation in need of evaporation
About “sweat it out”

During July of 2023, much of the world was suffering through a heatwave. June and July saw hundreds of new record temperatures. Some of the days were also extremely humid. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere.

Sweating is essential to cooling down when hot weather causes the body temperature to climb. “Sweat is one of the main ways the body cools itself. But on a humid day, sweat has a harder time evaporating into the air.’ In high humidity, the air is already nearly full of water vapor and can’t hold any more. “That’s where the hot, sticky feeling comes from,” explains Dr. Benjamin of Health Partners.

When water evaporates, it turns from liquid to a gas which requires the transfer of a huge amount of energy. In our experiment from 2003 “The Waterfall House” and “The Economics of Turning Water Into Electricity“, Sidd found, “for every cubic foot of water that evaporated it took 61000 BTU with it.”

About the Song

In June of 2023, we were discussing animal agriculture, carbon offsets and sequestration, planting trees, and greenwashing. I asked, “Is it a mistake for us to even suggest staying under 1.5 C is a possibility?” Sidd replied, “1.5 C is in the rear view mirror these days.”

During the first week of July 2023, the Earth had the hottest days ever.

How long is “ever”… as in “the hottest it’s ever been in recorded history”?

Humans are about 200,000 years old with our closest variety being dated to about 140,000 years ago. The earliest “recording of history” is approximately 100,000 years old. It is the story of The Seven Sisters of The Pleiades. The Seven Sister are a cluster of stars in the Taurus constellation. There are six stars visible to the naked eye. The story is about seven stars. The seventh star has not been visible to the naked eye for over 100,000 years.

The 20th-century surface temperature average for Earth was 13.9 °C.
In July of 2023 we are seeing average temperatures of 17°C.

Q: Is it possible for humans to push the temperature 3 °C above pre-industrial levels?
A: Yes. Humans have pushed global temperatures up more than 3 °C.

Q: Is it possible for humans to survive at temperatures greater than 3 °C?
A: Probably not long. Humans have never done it before.

Extreme weather will become more frequent and intense. Sea levels will rapidly rise as the coasts disappear. However, the most concerning development will be feedback loops. Plants and other carbon sinks will disappear. The Earth’s temperature will continue to accelerate at an exponential rate no matter what humans do. Food, fresh water, and breathable air will cease to exist. Humans will likely follow in short order.

“The increasing heating of our planet caused by fossil fuel use is not unexpected, it was predicted already in the 19th century after all,” said climate scientist Stefan Rahmstorf at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research in Germany. “But it is dangerous for us humans and for the ecosystems we depend on. We need to stop it fast.”

This is our current situation. Not “years away”. Not tomorrow. Today.

Stop burning fossil fuels today, stop exploiting hydrocarbons today, or else….

Falling without care
As if not there
Under the spell

The sincerity of gravity
It’s all around
Don’t let it get you down

The severity of gravity
It’s all around
Don’t let it get you down

What does the center of gravity
Have to do with my belly
You push my button

How novel the navel
How low or how high
Swim as if fins
Or run like I fly
Let’s push our buttons
Equilibrium glutton
Push the button
But out
Butt in
Pushin’ buttons

No spin or rotate debate
Sure, I participate
No doubt I flail about
But for certain the button
Is quick to be smooth…
Slick

Parabolic

Live relative
To an ape’s escape velocity
Force of gravity
Getting to me
Coming down to Earth
For what it’s worth

DR0000_0089-Center-of-Gravity.mp3

The center of gravity, in physics, is an imaginary point in a body of matter where the total weight of the body may be considered to be concentrated. If supported at the center of gravity, the body remains in equilibrium in any position.

“Your navel is your center of gravity, so that affects your sense of balance. Researchers say the exact location of your belly button can even determine your best sport. Your potential to be a good runner is greater if your navel is high, and, if it’s lower, you may be a better swimmer.” — Deutsche Welle (DW)

“An object thrown through the air may spin and rotate, but its center of gravity will follow a smooth parabolic path,” — Boston University

“A radial parabolic trajectory is a non-periodic trajectory on a straight line where the relative velocity of the two objects is always the escape velocity.” — Wikipedia

The exit’s the door
These rules apply no more
Turned upside-down
Is going around

Why? Nobody knows

Anyway the wind blows)

Some days you see the sun
Night gives way to dawn
These rules are dead and gone
Turned upside-down
Is going around
The chicken has crossed the road
Why? Nobody knows
(Carry the load…
Anyway the wind blows)

Some days are hot and others not
It’s not always flood or drought
Those rules are now in doubt

LYRICS
Over the sunset
Under the clouds
The last ray of the day
Makes it my way
With a shine so fine
I’m golden
Loving the time
I’m holdin’

Lover of “not yet”
Wonder out-loud
Grasp the last ray
Coming this way
With a shine so fine
I’m golden
Loving the time
I’m holdin’

Under the sunset
Bouncing off clouds
Hey! One more ray
Found it my way
With a shine so fine
I’m golden
Loving the time
I’m holdin’

I see the light
Red and blue scattered in the hue
The sight
I see the light

Why is the sky blue?
“Sunlight reaches Earth’s atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by all the gases and particles in the air. Blue light is scattered more than the other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.” — NASA

Why are sunsets red and purple?
“More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes. If the path is long enough, all of the blue and violet light scatters out of your line of sight. The other colors continue on their way to your eyes. This is why sunsets are often yellow, orange, and red.” — University of Wisconsin

What is the effect of atmospheric refraction at sunset?
“The sun is visible to us about after the actual sunset. This is because of atmospheric refraction, which is due to the apparent flattening of the sun’s disc at sunrise and sunset.” — BYJU’s

I heard you ranting
I heard you rave
Does it leave you wanting
To go out and save
Hey! How about now
We make a change anyhow?
Or will the will stand still
Will it?
Will it!

I heard you screaming
I heard you shout
Does it have meaning
What’s it about
Hey! How about now
We make a change anyhow?
Or will the will stand still
Will it?
Will it!

I heard you swearing
I heard you curse
Is the frown you’re wearing
Making things worse
Hey! How about now
We make a change anyhow?
Or will the will stand still
Will it?

Uppercase delta (Δ) means “change” or “the change” in math. An example in which a variable x stands for the movement of an object: “Δx” means “the change in movement.” Scientists make use of this mathematical meaning of delta in various branches of science. (So do artists and musicians)

This song is about 2 social media posts I made the day the song was written and recorded:

For those people living in Southeastern PA, extreme weather warning for this afternoon. Please remember:
Q: Is there a limiting factor to the size of raindrops… that will prevent them from becoming lethal?
A: “A Hard Rain Is Falling” and, yes, hail can kill you.

I responded to a post about climate change being “frightening” and what we need to do. Most people want the government and/or businesses to take responsibility. Here was my response:
It is in everybody’s best interest to abandon fossil fuels immediately. The inevitable is already bad enough… if we continue on as usual, the severity and immediacy will increase exponentially. All need to take action… governments and businesses as organizations, and even more importantly — us… people. Everybody (at least in the USA) can go net-zero today and save money at the same time. Reaching “net zero” is easy, cheap, and saves you thousands of dollars, not to mention, you can help save the planet. Electricity and heat, food and land use, transportation, and investment. Here is what I’ve done to go carbon negative: Go Net Zero Now.

When I say “The inevitable is already bad enough”… this is what we are talking about… your guaranteed future:

No need to wonder
Of the thunder

Thunder or lightning
Which is frightening?
The jolt of a bolt
Will strike you down
The sound lag found
It’ll come around
Takes ‘er a while

Count your drive to stay alive
1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Mile per hour: 7 6 7
Our race pace
To heaven
[The might
Of the speed of light]

The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. The speed of sound is 767 miles per hour. You can tell how far away the lightning strikes are from your location by counting the time between the light and the sound. It takes about 5 seconds for the thunder to travel 1 mile. As climate change brings more extreme weather events, cumulonimbus clouds will become more common. Cumulonimbus clouds create the conditions the conditions for thunder and lightning, as well as, creating extreme precipitation momentum that is deadly.

Extending high in the sky

This song considers several concepts of math, physics, and human life. “Wave–particle duality is the concept in quantum mechanics that every particle or quantum entity may be described as either a particle or a wave.” Is that possible? Or is a mirror image in reverse? “The image of everything in front of the mirror is reflected backward, retracing the path it traveled to get there. Nothing is switching left to right or up-down. Instead, it’s being inverted front to back.” If I live the mirror image of my life, will I grow younger? Is there a “dependence of various physical phenomena on relative motion of the observer and the observed objects, especially regarding the nature and behavior of light, space, time, and gravity”? How about creativity? Do people really come up with original ideas? Is it possible to be spontaneous?

You reeling from it?

On the smoking

The air
Do you care to share your despair?
Can it be, well, haste, waste, such
To the touch
Is “weigh too much”
… way too much?

Climate change is in the air
You can feel
(Can you feel it a bit?)

Beware
The real deal
Literally
Litter you can see
Climate change is in the air
You can feel the real deal

[Dog Barking]
Is his bark worse than his bite?
Not tonight!
(Climate change’s bite is worse than the bark)

Climate change is in the air
You can feel the real deal

This song is about the Canadian wildfires of 2023. Up to this point in time it had been easy for people not to really notice climate change. A gradual rise in temperature of 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit. I mean… what’s the big deal, right? Well, the extreme wildfires are fueled by climate change and people can literally see it. The wildfires create huge CO2 emissions and remove millions of acres of CO2 absorbing old-growth forests creating a worsening feedback loop. Air pollution is: a leading cause of death worldwide, the leading cause of climate change, and the greatest threat to humankind. The good news — the wildfires are very visible. The wildfires are in your face. People can see, smell, taste, and touch the climate change in their face. Perhaps some of the unwoke will wake?

Smoke from wildfires in Canada brought record-breaking air pollution to the United States this spring, creating dangerous air quality from Bismarck, N.D., to Denver and Detroit to New York City and Washington. According to a Washington Post analysis of smoke data through June 7 (2023) from Stanford University, 197 air quality monitoring stations have reported all-time high pollution from wildfires.
