Song Writing and Recording on the Brandywine River
LYRICS
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
Livin’ so peacefully
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
A merry old soul was he
Smokin’ his pipe and listening to his fiddlers three
Chorus
A merry old soul
A merry old soul
A merry old soul was he
Andrew Wyeth’s Brandywine bank
Makes for perfect scenery
Andrew Wyeth on Brandywine’s bank
Livin’ so peacefully
With his paints and artistry
… he’d capture history
Chorus
The indigenous Lenape
Living in Lenape
The indigenous Lenape
Livin’ so peacefully
Smokin’ peace pipes in a teepee
Dancin’ to drummers
Dancin’ to drummers
Dancin’ to drummers merrily
Written in Ambler, PA and recorded at Fort Washington State Park in Ft. Washington, Montgomery County, PA. The live version was recorded by Jon at the Jon Sherling Studios in Mount Laural, NJ.
The inspiration came as I sat on a bench in Ambler, PA trying to think of a song to play on stage that night. When I started writing the music on an acoustic guitar, I look up and saw a face smiling back at me. This made me smile. So, I continued with the inspiration knowing the smiling faces would make me smile that night. Then, I stopped to write down some lyrics, and I heard a little voice behind me yell, “More! More! More!” It was a little girl maybe 2-3 years old. She continued chanting until I started playing again. May music bring a smile to our faces.
