bookmark_borderOwn Worst Enemy

A song inspired by a friend’s Facebook post:

So, 88-98% of corn, cotton (cotton oil–as in what a lot of potato chips are cooked in), canola oil, and soybean crops grown are genetically engineered. About 80% of the crops are to feed livestock. So what evolution has taken 3 billion years to create, humankind can destroy in 40 years. Maybe that’s the plan, to kill off our own kind to revert back to the beginning, with a little plastic and holes in the ozone as a special bonus. Kudos, Homo sapiens. We’ve really “outdone” ourselves.

LYRICS
What is it that I walk upon?
I wish we had the insight to look on and on and on
And, we found the ground
Underneath our feet
Are we going to be our own defeat?

What is that that I breath
Has the air gone up in thin air
Is there something more than just our air in there
What is it we breath
Are we our own disease?

Will we beat
Into defeat
Will we beat
Our own defeat

What is that in our food
Is it any good
What we eat
Are we our own defeat?

I don’t think we can cheat Mother Nature
It’s us we beat into defeat

We’re going to beat ourselves into defeat
And, I would say it’s time to change the seat
This game of musical chairs is going nowhere
I don’t want to be the last one standing
It won’t be any fun if I’m the only one that does remain
It might even drive you insane

Oncoming Traffic.mp3

LYRICS
If your ball should roll out onto the road
Before you run out, watch for the oncoming load

When you run out into traffic
It could end up tragic
Not the story you want told
“Tragic.. died before he was old.”

Wonder who built the roads anyway?
Now they just seem in the way
Of our progress in being a civilized civilization
On that superhighway of life
A bug’s life is strife
Being shattered on the windshield
’cause that oncoming load would not yield

My life became a mess
My innards on the interstate

Stop. Look. And, listen.

Before you run out on the road, look out for that oncoming load

Oh, %^&*!
Here comes a truck
Do you know if I can duck?

With a giant leap of faith we can overcome that oncoming freight

LYRICS
Any which way
As long as it’s the highway

I’ve been listening to you all night and day
The only thing I’ve got to say…
Any which way
As long as it’s the highway

All night and day
I have to sit and listen to what you say
Any which way
As long as it’s the highway

This is your call…
Do you call for the fall?

LYRICS
Said, the cat to the mouse,
“The race is on”
You know the race is on
Run!

The race is on

You know the race is on
When you hear the starting gun
The race is on
It’s time to run

Said, the dog to the cat,
“The race is on…
Didn’t you hear the starting gun?
Come on and run ’cause the race is on”

You know the race is on
When you hear the starting gun
Come on and run

Don’t hesitate as we commence the chase

Said, the spider to the fly,
“The race is on…
Go on and run,
The sticky web that I weave
Makes it hard to leave.”

Come on the race is on

1, 2… 1, 2 ready go

They’re off!
The race is on

You better run
Before the setting sun

Didn’t you hear the starting gun?
It’s in my heart to give you a little head start

LYRICS
Let’s get in sync

A jazz experimental ditty
Try to get into some spiritual possibility
In this time, in this day, in this age
When you want to turn the page
And get a way from history
Because that’s not my story
I might be a product of my genes
I might be a product of my environment
I’m not a product of the obscene
I’ve come to appreciated what life means

If you feel like your downtrodden… down beat…
Of the old narrate
If you can’t figure out what the hell you’re doing here
When this is heaven
Well, maybe you haven’t been forgiven
Or, maybe you haven’t been enlightened
It’s not too late

Whenever things get hard…
When you think it’s hard
Of course it might depend on your tissue
Your issue
’cause you could be soft inside
The hardened shell is your own hell

It could be just as well
Come out of that shell
With that soft underbelly
Crawl out… it’ll be funny
Come to see
Enlightenment
And, that’s excitement
That’s how you create a thrill
So that people will chill
Create a thrill
And get rid of ill-will

bookmark_borderAnd We All Bleed

LYRICS
Prelude (recorded in the soundcheck)
What if I’ve just been the victim of the world’s greatest con
What if I’m just a victim of everything that’s gone wrong
And, we all bleed
When one of us is bleeding, we concede to bleed.

The Song
Have I just been the victim of the world’s greatest con?
All these people and politicians tell me nothing’s gone wrong?
That’s the wrong song!

Try to convince me
We’re not responsible?
Yes, you try to convince me
That we’re not responsible?
That’s most irresponsible

We’re responsible for all this trash
We’re responsible for all this mess
We’re responsible for all pollution
We’re responsible for institution
De-civilization

Maybe it’s time
We woke up and smell the coffee
Can you smell the coffee
Or, is it just me?

We’ve all got something wrong going on
Well, folks…
Look behind that curtain
It’s a hoax
The Wizard is you
Now, what’cha gonna do?

Have we just victimized ourselves of the greatest con
It’s all around
How it went wrong is now in song

Is it just me or do we have to take responsibility?

What’s up?
I wouldn’t take long

’cause long ain’t what we got
Your time is running short
… or, have you forgot
Ashes to ashes… return to dirt

What’s up?
I wouldn’t take long

Since your time is getting cut short
Try ‘en let it out as one long blurt
… or, make ’em tingle with a lil’ jingle
… move ’em along with an uplifting song

What’s up?
I wouldn’t take long

Here they come
Where will they fall
Deaf or dumb
Will they hear the call?

The harder they come
The harder their fall
The bigger they come

No matter how tall
No feeling… they’re numb
Did their brains all stall?

The bigger they come
The harder they fall
The bigger they come
The harder their fall

LYRICS
I suppose if this is the calm before the storm
I should take refuge and heed the warn
If things go helter skelter
Do you want to live in a bomb shelter?

Enough picking have and have nots
Enough debating whys and why nots
Lets get getting while the going is good
Livin’ in the moment… just a bit
Never the regret of would, could, should

We’re moving… moving into the light
It feels right
We’re moving… moving into the light
It’s alright

No sense trying to fight the fight
Why go to war against war
No sense trying to slight with might
Might just find Self dead on the floor
Might as well banish all the blight
Can’t imagine life as a bore
Making others’ days bright with insight
Taking off on a spiritual tour

I found myself smack dab in the middle of a protest
Not exactly sure what it’s about
I find we always had… everything we need…

One thing’s for sure

Feel the movement of our moment
Hear the call for all
A taste of freedom is right there

Relevant
As an elephant
In a China shop
Now, drop

It’s time to be big
Big… bigger than this
Bigger than this
A luscious kiss
Able to transcend
Again and again

Time to get relevant
Like an elephant in a China shop
Now, drop

Relevant

Like an elephant in a China shop
Now, drop
Irreverent in a reverent way
Instead of gone astray
We can band together
As a band
Not, necessarily hand-in-hand
(Staying unique)

Coming relevant
Like an elephant
In a China shop
Now, drop!
