ABOUT THIS SONG
This song is about co-operation making beautiful music. The left side of my body plays the guitar. The right side of my body plays the keyboards. The vocals try to find middle ground that makes the whole greater than the sum of the parts.

bookmark_borderAudience Appreciation Index

It has been quite some time since I’ve posted about the Tunesmith Adventures. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been thoroughly enjoying the audiences. I have been. Though I would like to film more of the adventures, live subjects can be tricky.

Anyway, the audiences have been great. One of my favorite times was in the Spring of 2011. I was sitting at the corner of Ridge and Butler in Ambler, Pennsylvania. A school bus with tinted windows stopped at the light in front of me. I thought the bus was empty and just kept playing my heart away. All of a sudden, a bunch of the windows opened and all these kids started screaming and clapping. Wow! What a thrill.

Nick Does a Flip While I Play Jigging Music
Nick Does a Flip While I Play Jigging Music

Speaking of thrills, there seems to be an outbreak of people inspired to do *human tricks* whenever I start playing my jigging music. The Spring of 2012 has brought many a thrill seeker. Several interesting characters have co-operated in West Chester, Pennsylvania to bring great entertainment to the people. There is a guy that likes to do bike tricks over my head… and another fellow, Nick, who likes to do flips and jumps off the adjacent wall… sometimes it will just be a group of children ranging in ages from 2 to 92 that breakout into a spontaneous dance troupe. You all are more fun than Vaudeville, a sideshow, and a 3-ring circus all rolled into one.

I thank each and every one of you. From those who come up because they feel compelled to offer me money, to those who roll down their windows shouting out with a wave and a smile — THANK YOU!

Sincerely,
Daniel Brouse

LYRICS
Why not just say who you are
Is it really, really that hared?

Yes, once you go back that far
It becomes harder to find the word

A father’s daughter
Becomes the Maiden of St. Peter
Why they called her Dodo I don’t know

It really is that hard to say who you are
A piece from here. A piece from there.
Making up something unique

Is being unique to be a freak?

Why not just say who you are?
Have you ever even given thought
As in what you are not?

Are you really, really that far…?

I whisper to myself these thoughts
And, how it applies to the have’s and the have not’s

ABOUT THE SONG
Capo 1 Am / C add pinky to the 6th string 4th fret

Written on the boulders of Saint Peter’s Village in Pennsylvania. They say the giant boulders were pushed the furthest south by a proceeding glacier during the ice age. If you look through a birds-eye-view, you can see rocks that resemble huge dinosaur pieces.

LYRICS
Travelin’ back
There’s no need for a time machine
Travelin’ back
Rollin’ up the consciousness stream

Upstream
To the top of the hill
A southern breeze dodges the trees
Taking away the water’s chill

Livin’ heaven’s dream

The Season of Passion

Eve takes a bite from Cupid’s apple
The passion fruit blossoms
The wind will enable
And, scatter their sum some
Until the current brings us back
To where we started from

ABOUT THIS SONG
I made a deal with my co-author (God) that I would not sell out. So, I try not to. However, when it comes to songs that talk about hate or anger, it is tough. I’d prefer not to do these songs… because love is easier. Nevertheless, here it is — what someone’s hate toward us sounds like. Then, as the song progresses, the co-author and I make a suggestion to the hate-monger

instead of them just wearing a black hat, we ask them to crawl back and fade all the way to black. That way no one has to see how ugly. Hate, go away.

[i.e. A song about a hometown near you.]

Capo 2

Daniel — guitar, vocals, percussion, sound engineering

LYRICS
Yow! Spreading hate like a #%Ckin’ disease
You’ve got the mange, and you’re sporting fleas
Maggots, a leech… maybe some sort-of worm
Has eaten the heart right out of your heart
Now a shadowy, pitiful *lurking in the dark*
Creatures of slime eaten your warm
Fuzzy turned to slurm, harm, germ
[Spreading hate like a #%Ckin’ disease]

Won’t you fade to black
You’re already better than half way (there)
No… no, no, please do not delay
Crawl back
Fade to black

Fourth Base .mp3 (free music download)

Though never a big league ball player, I do enjoy playing the All-American-Past-Time from time-to-time. The one thing that does come to mind is when a youngster is on base… and a bigger fellow hits a home run. You can yell, “Run to first.” You can yell, “Run to second.” You can yell, “Run to third.” However, if you yell, “Run home” you run the risk that the lad will do just that. Thus, the name of the song *Fourth Base*

ADDITIONAL LYRICS
You Might find it funny
But, you’re already home

There ya go strutting down the street
Always in search of your comfort zone
You don’t need to beat an easy feat
You’re never alone if you’re always at home
It’s within your reach… you don’t need to roam
You may find it funny, but you’re already home

No need to reach
No need to roam
Self teach
No moan

You might find it funny, but you’re already home

ABOUT THE SONG
Daniel — vocals, guitar
The song was written and recorded in Ambler and West Chester, Pennsylvania on an 8-track digital recorder. 1 track was used for guitar. 2 tracks were used for a stereo vocal track. 3 tracks were used for individual backing vocals. 2 tracks were used to create a stereo master mix.

The inspiration for the guitar lick and the lyrics came from the vibe of the people passing by.

Capo 6
Play an Em on the 11th fret… and let your finger wander.

LYRICS
I look for the meaning
In the meaning
But, I can’t always find it there
Elusive. Eluding…
Though it may be (to me)
So, too, I

So, too, I

I’m really hoping I get the knack
I hope and pray I get the knack
The proper range
The proper attack

Oh , Lord… filling my lack

So, too, I

Maybe what I was worried about is weigh, way bigger than you?
(So, I can let my shy side come through)

I’m really hoping I get the knack

Picnic, Dear?

Hey, hey! Wouldn’t ya say
It’s a beautiful day
All’s clear
Nothing in the way

The fog is long gone
Got my guitar… I’ll play a song
If you’d like… you can sing along

Hey, hey! Wouldn’t ya say
It’s a beautiful day
All’s clear
Nothing in the way
No fear
Nothing in the way

Hey, hey! Wouldn’t ya say

All’s clear

Hope’s near

Nothing in the way

LYRICS
When you hit your finger with a hammer
Hopefully, you feel the pain

Perhaps at first
It sounds a little insane
But, hopefully… you feel the pain

Would you rather the curse of the leper
When you feel nothing at all
Over time
Losing the sense of sense
Only sensing your senses are dull

On the other hand,
When you hit the chord of love
Spreading it with grammar
Hopefully, it’s like from heaven above

I hope you understand
Hopefully, you can feel others pain
Hopefully, you can feel others love
Hopefully, shedding the light we’re capable of

Hook the black to the negative
So, ya know… the red can go

Letting in the beauty of the song
Ensuring the positive is at large

A positive outcome

Pusing Up Daisies .mp3 (free music downloads)

I was driving by Ryan Dunn’s final stop… when this song came to me:

Who woulda thunk

I’d find my glory

Pushin’ up day’s ease?

Dandelions and daffodils

The only things footin’ my bills

Jesus, I’m pushing up daisies

The life I drunk

Is my story

While in heaven

The task I’m given

Is pushing up daisies

Nope. I can’t be lazy

Too late to be crazy

So, won’t ya please

Bring me a daisy

I’ll push it up for you

Sprouting life into view

May I bring you a dream scene

You might have thought me dead

Instead… let it be said:

I’m just laying about these trees

Praying for yor’ day’s ease

ABOUT THE SONG
I’m happy to say, I got to know Ryan Dunn. This song came to me through the spirit that remains. Now, that Spring has come to the place where is life came to an end… the burn and scar are healing. And, it’s a funny thing about spring… how life sprouts up. So, while I was attempting to identify with the spirit… a humorous point-of-view came through… about how he lives on and hopes to push up some daisies for us. Ya, know? Have a holiday on him… a Spring Break… a few days ease 🙂

Written and recorded in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

LYRICS
Get on! Get on!
It’s time to get on with it
Come on. Get on.
Join the ride. Enjoy life a bit.

Come on and get a lift
Jump up and down like you’ll never quit
Roll down a hillside
Raise your arms like a roller coaster ride

Get on! Get on!
Lovin’ livin’ every minute
Come on. Get on.
Livin’ lovin’ every moment

From the album The Beatless Sense Mongers 2012

I’ve known you a longtime
Until you call me, mine
I’ve known you a longtime
You’ve committed just about every crime

Now our co-sign is dying
No, no… you ain’t no friend of mine

You’ve done me wrong
I’m done singing that song
Ya know I prayed for the day
Now, I’m happy to say.
This is the day.
(Horray)

I’ve been putting
Putting in time
I’ve been trying
Trying!

On my spirit you love to dine
Making me wince… making me whine
Fo’ sure, ya know
Ya ain’t no friend of mine
Nooo, you ain’t no friend of mine

No, you ain’t no friend of mine

The concept of freedom
Is hard to grasp
If you’re not free
(And, never have been)
It stands to reason

Hitting home at last
… once through the gate
Pouring from every pore
(For evermore)
You’re free
(Happy to be)
Wealthy in liberty
(Free!)
You’re able to be

Having been a victory virgin
Never before across the finish line
The feeling sinks in
“Freedom is mine!”

I have to tell ya
The taste is sweet
… like no other treat
A desert from the dessert
I’m not talkin’ ’bout democracy
Rather the absence of hypocrisy
From see to smiling see

Happy to be
